Terms of Use

These terms cover the Firsthand app for Mac, the Firsthand Remote app for iPhone, and this website. By using them, you agree to what is written here.

Firsthand is currently in early access. That means it is still being actively developed, and things may change or occasionally break. We will be honest with you about that.

The free version of Firsthand is free to use for as long as you like, including for commercial work. Exports made with the free version carry a small Made with Firsthand mark, and are limited to 1080p.

Buying a licence removes the mark and the resolution limit. A licence is a one-time purchase for personal or commercial use by one person, and includes updates released within one year of purchase. You keep the version you bought forever, whether or not you renew.

You may install your licence on the Macs you personally use. Please do not share your licence key publicly or with other people.

Everything you record with Firsthand belongs entirely to you. We claim no ownership of, and no licence to, any video you create. We could not use it even if we wanted to, because we never receive it.

Do not attempt to circumvent licensing, redistribute or resell the app, or reverse engineer it except where the law expressly permits.

Do not use Firsthand to record anyone without whatever consent the law requires where you are. What you record is your responsibility.

Purchases are processed by Paddle as the merchant of record, and refund requests go through them. If a refund is due within Paddle's window, contact hello@usefirsthand.app and we will help sort it out. We would rather refund you than have you stuck with something that does not work for you.

Firsthand is provided as is, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error free, or fit for a particular purpose.

Because Firsthand writes to your own disk and never uploads anything, we cannot recover your recordings if something goes wrong. Keep your own backups of anything you care about.

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for anything arising out of these terms or your use of Firsthand is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including lost profits or lost recordings.

Some places do not allow these limits. Where that is true, these limits apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing here removes rights you have as a consumer.

We may update these terms as the product grows. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and material changes will be communicated to customers by email.
