Firsthand records on your Mac. Your video never touches our servers, because we don't have any.
Last updated 26 July 2026
Firsthand has no servers, no accounts, and no analytics. Nothing you record ever leaves your Mac. This page explains the few places where we do hold data — essentially just an email address, if you give us one.
The short version
The Firsthand apps do not collect anything. There is no account, no analytics, no telemetry, and no crash reporting. Your recordings, your camera, your microphone, and your phone's screen never leave your Mac.
The only personal data we ever hold is an email address, and only if you choose to give us one by buying a licence. Downloading Firsthand does not require one.
What the apps collect: nothing
Firsthand for Mac and Firsthand Remote for iPhone make no network requests to us. There is no server to send anything to.
Recording happens entirely on your Mac. Video is composed live and written straight to your own disk, in your Movies folder. We never see it, store it, or transmit it.
Your iPhone streams its screen to your Mac directly over your local Wi-Fi network. That connection stays inside your home or office network and never routes through the internet.
The apps store a small amount of information locally on your own device — whether you have completed onboarding, which takes you have starred, and your licence status. This lives on your machine and is never uploaded.
Permissions, and the one we never ask for
Firsthand asks for camera and microphone access, so that your face and voice can be part of the recording. It asks for local network access, so your iPhone can find your Mac.
Firsthand never asks for macOS Screen Recording permission. It has no need to see your Mac's screen, and by design it cannot.
What this website collects
We do not run a mailing list. There is no signup form on this site, because you do not need an account to get Firsthand. The Mac app is a direct download and the iPhone app is an open TestFlight beta.
This site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard web server information such as your IP address and browser type in order to serve the page. Vercel acts as our data processor.
You can ask us to delete your email address at any time by writing to hello@usefirsthand.app, and we will remove it.
Payments
Purchases are handled by Paddle, which acts as the merchant of record. When you buy Firsthand, Paddle collects and processes your payment and billing details directly. We never see or store your card number.
We receive a record that a purchase occurred, along with the email address used, so that we can issue and support your licence.
Children
Firsthand is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Your rights
Because we hold so little, most requests are simple. You can ask what we have about you, ask for a copy of it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@usefirsthand.app and we will respond.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or the CCPA. We honour those rights regardless of where you are.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top of this page, and tell customers by email. We will not quietly start collecting things.
