Firsthand

Questions, answered.

The short version of everything people ask before their first take.

Does Firsthand need Screen Recording permission?

No. Never. Your iPhone streams its screen over Wi-Fi, so macOS Screen Recording permission stays off. Firsthand only asks for camera and microphone, so you're in the take.

Does my video go through the cloud?

No. Everything is composed and recorded on your Mac. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.

Is it a subscription?

No. Firsthand is $99 once, yours forever, with a year of updates included. The free version never expires.

What does the free version include?

Full recording, every canvas style, takes and trim. Exports carry a small Made with Firsthand mark and are capped at 1080p.

What do I need to run it?

A Mac on macOS 14 or later, an iPhone on iOS 17 or later, and both on the same Wi-Fi.

Can I edit my recording afterward?

You can trim the ends, and that's deliberate. Firsthand composes everything live, so the file is finished the moment you stop. No timeline, no render, nothing to fix.

What happens if my iPhone disconnects mid-take?

Firsthand keeps recording and reconnects automatically. You'll see a banner while it happens, and the take stays intact.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Firsthand is built Mac-and-iPhone-first. If that changes, the changelog will say so loudly.
